From the very beginning of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a diverse cast of characters, and a gripping narrative showcasing celestial beings, evil spirits, and malevolent powers growing in influence within the urban setting.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of the new season follow below.
The Warrior Group Introduced
The third episode concluded with a dramatic pause and presented the premier party of adventurers who will separate from the central cast to begin their independent quest, distinct from the remaining groups.
The Soldiers table consists of Teor (brought to life by the voice actor), the agile character (Laura), the fierce warrior (the cast member), Wicander Halovar (Sam Riegel), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).
The Reason for Division
Given 13 cast members, it was clear from the start that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.
This explains, the initial installments of this story serve as an Overture, connecting the individual narratives before branching into three distinct groups: Warriors, Planners, and Seekers.
The Nature of the Warrior Group
Per the DM, the Soldiers table is for players who enjoy a traditionally charged battle-oriented gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are rare.
At first glance, figures such as the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might seem out of place, but the actions of the latest installment make it clear why these five characters are best suited for the warrior group.
Reasons to Leave
For one thing, the group understands precisely where to go next after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
An old friend of the deceased character—whose passing started the narrative’s action—manipulated the enemy for his selfish purposes, invading the hidden lair, attacking Thimble, and swiping all the enchanted items to dispose of.
Casimir then paid off his obligations and escaped to a fortified location in the northern region, north of the city, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Moreover, each character has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:
- The agile hero, as the companion and closest confidant, wants revenge.
- The adventurer knows Timmony and warns that it is a hostile environment.
- The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his relatives’ demands to eliminate the fighter and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
- Yet, their position as key figures in House Halovar could help the group access places they normally couldn’t.
- Additionally, Teor pledged a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
Lastly, all of them are hunted by the authorities that control the setting for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city too risky:
- The rogue and The character are known criminals.
- The strong figure and The cleric betrayed House Halovar and the legion of demons they are allied with.
- The fighter is wanted dead by the clan.
This means them few options but to head to the northern region in pursuit of the traitor.
Future Episodes
Based on episode three’s post-show segment, we find out that the combat party will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight participants to round up the Explorers and Schemers tables.
Audiences can anticipate discovering which adventurers will be where in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on October 24.
