An individual who contaminated sweets with sleeping medication and distributed them to youngsters at a summer program in Leicestershire has admitted sexual crimes against two boys aged between nine and ten.
The accused was detained after eight children and an older person became sick at Stathern Lodge in July.
The senior citizen, from that region, admitted guilt to a multiple criminal counts when he appeared at the courthouse on the end of the week.
Yet, he denied one particular crime he was accused of, which was against a young boy.
The defendant was remanded in custody ahead of a subsequent court date on late November.
'Sweet game'
Mary Prior KC, prosecuting, described the criminal behavior to the judicial body.
She stated his those affected were disadvantaged youngsters who were participating in a youth camp which he ran.
The man engaged in a "sweet game" with the children, Mrs Prior said, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and ask them to consume candy "as fast as possible".
She stated to the judge the man had conducted this practice with the boys "for many years", and youngsters had earlier experienced illness the subsequent day.
She stated the defendant had been capable of justifying this over a long period as the children being "overstimulated by activities", until his stepchild had worries in summer 2025.
The legal representative added: "This year his stepson had worries about the situation, for good reason.
"They resolved" to examine in the man's possessions."
The prosecutor explained materials including baby oil, ointment and injection devices were discovered, and his stepchild alerted the law enforcement about his worries.
She said the man proceeded to play the "sweet game" with six boys that time - that Saturday - and they were all sick the next day.
"The police had not arrived by that time," she stated further.
The police watchdog, the investigative body, had stated that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.
Mrs Prior explained the minors were struggling to walk due to their condition, so Ruben's stepson notified the police once more.
She said the man then played the "candy game" in a area of five youngsters.
